Our Story
We are a tanning family with a tradition of producing leathers tailor made to market demand that dates back to 1967, with the dedication to complete all orders at the highest degree of performance. Our range of products consists mainly of sheep and goat garment nappas and suedes, chrome and veg-tanned. Through the years, we have been delivering hundreds of articles made to customers’ preferences, giving us the advantage of a rich and deep knowledge of leather making. Thus, we can challenge anyone and say: our leather is what you have in your mind. Presently, we have a network of representatives in the UK, Italy, Israel, Canada, and the USA, serving these markets as best as we can. Needless to say, no serious customer is excluded, wherever they may be on the globe. It is always an honour to respond to any inquiry and build friendships that remain.
History
Limassolian leathers Ltd is a family business now in its fourth generation, with its official origins in 1967. The company was founded by Costas Pitsillides (Kotsios) and his two sons Demetrakis (Akis) and Georgios (Kokos). Tanning began in the location of today’s Crowne plaza Hotel and the Oval business center. At first, wool skins, handbag and garment leathers were processed for the first tourists on the island. As time passed and Limassol started developing in 1978 the factory had to be relocated to its current premises, built for serious industrial production. Over time, production capacity and quality was optimized through the acquisition of the latest equipment.
It is here that sheep garment leathers and bovine shoe uppers were produced for the thriving local market. Wet-blue was also produced from sheep and goat, which was exported to Italy and Eastern European countries. The third generation came on the scene as Marios Pitsillides studied leather technology at the National Leather sellers Center in Northampton UK. He gained the necessary experience by working in one of the largest and top of the range tanners of Spain. Once he came into the scene of the company, he applied his expertise towards the improvement of production quality at a totally new level. The improved process resulted in leathers which came to be appreciated by customers like Gucci, Nautica, Banana Republic, and many other exclusive designers.
