Is leather a sustainable product?

Let's check the facts. Leather is made from farm animals which are primarily used for food purposes (milk and meat). Therefore as long as people want milk and meat skins that make leather will be produced. This means that leather is a renewable material, unlike all synthetic substitutes which have to be produced from fossil fuels via energy-consuming processes therefore they are not renewable. Also leather is a completely biodegradable material, unlike the synthetic substitutes which are the biggest ecological problem of our time namely micro-plastics which are the biggest problem in the oceans and in landfills requiring many decades or hundreds of years to decompose, releasing toxic chemicals in the environment. Also leather is much more sustainable than its competitors because the average lifespan of leather is four times as much as plastics.
